![]() | Spider Enemies Spiders are soft bodied creatures meaning they can be eaten, giving them many enemies. There are also parasites that like spiders such as Nematodes and mites. The mites can be easily spotted as they show as red dots on the spider. Other predators of spiders include birds, lizards, geckos, scorpions and centipedes, they will catch spiders from the ground or out of their webs. There are also specialized wasps that hunter for spiders and once captured, use the spider to lay its eggs in, when the larvae hatch inside, they feed on the paralyzed spider. Some flies also attack spiders, they will lay black coloured eggs on vegetation or on the ground, when the newly hatched larvae are able to, they will either crawl or jump on a spiders legs, the larvae then penetrate through the legs into the spider, or through the book lungs leading to the spiders death. The praying mantis will kill any insects including spiders and other praying mantis's they come across. The biggest and greatest threat to spiders is.... other spiders. During times when food is scarce, its eat or be eaten. A familiar spider in most homes is the daddy longled spider, this spider is a great spider killer, in the spring she is one of the only spiders to survive. During the winter she will kill and eat almost every insect and other spiders, if food is still scares she will even eat her own kind. Spiders are also at risk from us, humans, with natural landscapes being destroyed for housing for people, with insecticides being used on crops to people killing them out of fear.
