Fiddler Spider identification - what does it look like?
These spiders can be a brown, grey or even a very deep yellow colour, they also usually have markings on their dorsal side of their cephalothrax, with a black line pointing to the rear of the spider that looks like a violin neck.

Is the Fiddler Spider poisonous?
All types (except Uloboridae) are poisonous! As it states in its name, the Brown "Recluse" spider is not aggressive, bites from this spider are rare. This spider only normally bits a person when it is pressed up against the skin, for instance, when tangled up within someone's clothing, bath towel or in bedding. If bitten, most bites are minor with no necrosis (necrosis is the premature death of cells and living tissue), however, in a few cases bites produce severe dermonecrotic lesions and sometimes, severe systemic symptoms. In very bad cases, this can lead to organ damage and death. For a fatality to occur, the person may have a week immune system or children under 7 and susceptible.
A few species of Fiddler Spider bites form a necrotizing ulcer that destroys soft tissue that can take months to heal and also leave deep scares.


If bitten, an ice pack is to be applied to help control inflammation, with the application of Aloe Vera to help soothe and control the pain, also prompt medical care should be sort after. If the spider can be captured, it is best to bring it with the patient for identification.

The size of the Fiddler Spider can be between 6 to 20 millimetres but may grow bigger.

Where does the Fiddler Spider live, what is its habitat?
The Fiddler Spider is native to the United States. This spider can be found predominately in woodpiles, sheds, closets, beds, garages, plenum, cellae's and other places that are dry and in generally undisturbed places. When living in a human residents, they seam to favour cardboards, maybe because it resembles rotting tree bark which they would normally make their home in the wild. They have also been found living in shoes, inside dressers, in bed sheets that aren't used very often, in stacks or piles of clothes, behind pictures and when the ambient temperature is lower they will be found near sources of warmth.
