Disadvantages to raising a pet spider All spiders are venomous, so this must be considered when caring for a spider. Does the carer have a week immune system, are they allergic to stings? Tarantulas in particular, while they have a mildly venomous bite, they also have urticating hairs, these can be rubbed of their abdomen with their hind legs in order to release the fine hairs that are a sever irritant to the skin and mucus membranes and cause vision damage if they enter the eye.
